Alan S. Dover: Founder & President
Alan has built a long career in real estate development and site construction. After graduating with a Civil Engineering degree in 1978 from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia, he spent a few years with a regional construction company estimating and managing excavation, site preparation and paving projects. He started A.S. Dover Construction, Inc. in Ellijay, Georgia in 1986. A.S. Dover Construction specializes in site preparation for commercial and residential projects. Services include excavating, storm drainage, utility installation, concrete curbing, and asphalt paving. In the past several years the company has specialized in building subdivision infrastructure including roads, stream crossings, utility installation and facility site preparation.
In 1995, Alan and 9 other local business leaders organized Gilmer County Bank to fill a need for a locally owned financial institution in the area. The company is now known as Appalachian Bancshares, Inc. (NASDAQ: APAB) and has grown into a regional bank with 13 offices in Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. In addition to continuing to serve on the Board of Directors, Alan serves on the company's loan committee.
A.S. Dover Companies represents a group of companies in the real estate and development fields. As an outgrowth of Alan's expertise in building the infrastructure for other developers in the area, he began to acquire real estate in the late 1990's with the vision of developing the area's most desirable communities.
In 2002, Alan launched East Ridge, a rustic log cabin community on the eastern side of Gilmer County, and Ridgemont, a primary residence community east of Ellijay, Georgia, also in Gilmer County.
In 2003, Tranquility at Carters Lake® was launched near Ellijay, Georgia. The 550 acre community features lake view and creek side home sites adjacent to the pristine 3,200 acre Carters Lake. The lake features boat launches, a beach, campgrounds, and 5,000 acres of green space surrounding the lake. In addition to the lake, the community also has an open air pavilion, playgrounds, and walking trails at the 3 acre Tranquility Park®, and private, on-premises boat storage.
Falling Waters, a 1,700 acre mountain community is planned to open in 2008. This amenity rich community will redefine North Georgia in the minds of the most discriminating real estate owner.
A life long resident of Gilmer County, Alan lives in Ellijay with his wife Leigh Ann, and two sons.
